Error while exporting video in HEVC format

Just now i updated Activepresenter to its newest version 9.1.2. Whenever I export any video I use the option ‘MP4(HEVC, AAC)’. But after the update whenever I am trying to export the video it is showing ‘Error While Exporting Video’. In earlier 9.1.1 this did not happen. Why is that?

2nd issue is whenever I select the option in the setting ‘Use JPEG Color Range (Full Range) when exporting video’ and then try to export video in any format HEVC/H.264, the activepresenter abruptly closes. I am facing this 2nd issue since version 9.0.0. In Activepresenter 8 version this did not happen.

Atleast provide me the setup of Activepresenter 9.1.1 (MacOS Silicon Version) here so that I can resume my work by the time you solve this issue.

Now with 9.1.1 too it is happening. I tried reinstalling the setup again and clearing the cache but it’s happening just like 9.1.2.

Why on earth did I try to update when everything was going perfect. Kindly look into it. This issue is happening only when I am trying to export it in HEVC Codec in Macbook Pro (Apple SIlicon)

Yes, I did update my system to MacOS 14. I have already attached the log in my previous chats kindly look at them because after you sent the 9.1.1 version I cleared all the cache and preferences or so, to do a clean install of it. But even then it didn’t help. I will send you the current log though. This is of 9.1.2.

One more thing this problem with the HEVC Video exporting, I did face it with my previous version as well. But at that time I somehow managed to do so and then I made sure that I did not poke any settings.

But one thing I noticed after this 9 version is that whenever I update my activepresenter to any new version available initially at first or second try this exact issue used to happen. But then somehow with some makeshift solution, i managed to do it.

While waiting we check the issue, please try deleting the ActivePresenter folder as guide in the previous thread, @Arnit_Dey: Activepresenter 9.0.6 closing abruptly whenever Exporting a Video File in MacOS - ActivePresenter / Support Questions - ATOMI Community (atomisystems.com)

I already did that. After you guided that solution in the last post, whenever I am stuck in the same problem I used to do that only. This time too I did it but its not working.

The makeshift solution which I found out by trial and error in the last post (“I did it but again, for the 1st time it happened the same. But when I restarted the application and this 2nd time chose the Format ‘MP4 (H.264, AAC)’ instead of ‘MP4 (HEVC, AAC)’, it worked fine. And when i tried again for the 3rd time with Format ‘MP4 (HEVC, AAC)’, it worked fine.”) I tried this too but this time it is not working at all. From 9.0.6 to 9.1.1 I somehow managed to do it by this makeshift solution only.

Any update of this issue? If possible can you provide any tentative time period that this many days you may need till it is resolved so that I can schedule my work according to that? Just a tentative time frame

Still Issue is not resolved.

It is not showing Error now BUT the progress bar is stuck to 1-2% and is not increasing. Earlier exporting video in mp4 HEVC mode took very less time. It was way faster than Mp4 H.264 mode for the same file. But right now it is not exporting at all. It is stuck at one place only. For around 1 hour it was at 1% only. Whereas that same file was ready in 30 mins when done via H.264 Mode.

I want the HEVC mode to work properly as it used to be. Kindly please look into the issue and resolve it as soon as possible as I have waited 1 month for this issue to be resolved but still in vain.

Activepresenter 9.1.3

OS: MacOS 14.1 Sonoma

Macbook Pro M1, 16GB RAM

As asked by you (PhuongThuy_Le), I have created a sample project. This project is of 3hrs long as most of my projects are 2hrs 30 min to 3 hrs long generally. Hence to give you an idea of what issue I am facing I made a project similar to my all other projects. Also I have screen recorded and attached the file which will show you how much time it is taking to export a file to video in both H.264 and HEVC format.

Mainly two issues are there with this 9.1.3 version.

Time taking to export a file to video - Ideally Exporting video to HEVC format should take almost half the time compared to H.264 format. I am telling this with experience. I have been using activepresenter since 2014. And since HEVC feature was added to it from Activepresenter 9 onwards I have been using this feature for the last 1 year. Please look at the screen recording and observe the time taken and progress bar & you will notice it is taking humongous time to export just 1 file.

Approx time to export a 3 hrs long file to video in H.264 format (Old 9.1.1 version) ~ 30min to 1 hr
Approx time to export a 3 hrs long file to video in HEVC format (Old 9.1.1 version) ~ 15min to 30min
Approx time to export a 3 hrs long SAME file to video in H.264 format (NEW 9.1.3 version) ~ 2hrs 15min
Approx time to export a 3 hrs long SAME file to video in HEVC format (NEW 9.1.3 version) ~ 7hrs 20mins

Size of the exported file - Ideally file exported in HEVC format should have lesser size than H.264. But if you look closely at the exported file attached you will notice that size of HEVC file is greater than H.264 file for the same Sample Project. Earlier size of HEVC used to be around half than that of H.264. But now the opposite is happening.

Size of exported video in H.264 Format - 2.06 GB
Size of exported video in HEVC Format - 2.99 GB

Kindly look into this and resolve it as soon as possible as i have been waiting for this issue to be resolved since 1st October. My work is still stuck at one point due to this. Exporting to video in HEVC format is taking humongous time and also its size is greater.

Hi @Arnit_Dey,

Here are the test results of your project on our devices.

The H.264 format (9.1.3 version), we just adjusted the default settings to make the file size smaller, it did not affect the export time (reflected in our test results). So, you can try testing again.

We confirm two issues: export time and the file size of HEVC. These issues arise from changes in macOS 14 so the 9.1.1 version doesn’t work, we have to use a new approach. Additional time for investigating and finding out the solution is necessary.
At this time, kindly use the H.264 format instead.

For H.264 (9.1.3 version) did you set the settings just like I did (It was in the screen recording)? As the same file took 2 hrs 15 min for me (for H.264) in Macbook Pro, M1, 16GB with no any other process running apart from activepresenter. You can check the log file which I already sent there.

For HEVC (9.1.3 version) you can notice that even in your system its file size is greater than that of H.264, which shouldn’t be the case ideally.

Now since you ran 9.1.1 in macOs 14 it will show the error. Is it possible that you try the same thing with macOs 13? I am sure the result will be different.

Also do notice another thing that the file size for 9.1.1(H.264) & 9.1.3(HEVC) is SAME. So there may be some bug in the source code which interchanged the settings. As a result, even though we are selecting for HEVC, but actually in the background it is doing for H.264.

Take your additional time for solution but do get it right for the next version please. I cannot work with H.264 for the simple fact that file size for this format is large compared to HEVC. I don’t know the specifications of your apple systems, but the same file when exported in 9.1.3(H.264) resulted in 2.06GB (but for you it is 1.21GB) & in 9.1.3(HEVC) resulted in 2.99GB(but for you it is 1.73GB). So you can see there is a significant size difference. Hence I will wait for you to fix the issue and release the new version so that I can do my work in HEVC.
