Hi QuynhAnh,
I am supposed to upgrade, but I was wondering if with this new version it is always possible to review and/or edit projects made with the previous version.
Thank you for your work
ActivePresenter projects are backward compatible but not forward compatible.
So, you can still open, review, and edit projects made with the previous version.
In other words, you can open projects created with older versions in a newer version but projects created with newer versions cannot be opened with an older version.
So, if you use the latest version 10 to open a version 9 project, then save it in version 10, you can only open that project in version 10 or later 11 from then.
Hi I have used a project from AP9 in AP10 with no problems.
My only issue is that unless you are going to use AI, there is very little improvement from version 9 to 10. It is all about AI which comes at an additional cost. I have no need for AI so I’m currently questioning whether I should have bothered updating.
Besides the AI features, below are the additional features and enhancements you will get in ActivePresenter 10 and we will gradually reveal the tutorials and tricks for you:
Object/Image/Video filter effects
Question Settings (insert quiz directly between video), question navigation in editor (next/prev question slide)
Text editing: type to edit focused object, Tab/Shift+Tab to edit next/prev object, Esc to exit text editing
Preview transition and animation when hovering/selecting new one
Support group style: rounded corner, fill, line… for object group
Media Tools for image & video: Media Fit, Rotate Media, Crop, Blur
Edit slide background image as image object
Add more types of shapes (similar to types of shapes in PowerPoint)
Audio ducking effect
Timeline marker on timeline and HTML5 ToC
New actions: Next/Previous Object State, Delay Next Action
A lot more UI changes and rearrangements, not just the logo & icon.
If your work involves lots of eLearning editing features, I believe the above enhancements will help your process much smoother and easier.
Also, as I stated before, we want to focus on better editing experience, which means to solve the remained concerns that users communicate with us all the time, that’s why you might not see much differences. But I believe that to the users who are in need, these are big improvements.
So, I totally understand if you do not want to upgrade yet. Decision to upgrade or not all depends on users. We’re also glad the current version you are using has already satisfied you, dear
My advice is that you can download version 10 on another device to try it for free first, then compare the 2 versions when it comes to a real & complex project.
We would love to hear your feedback as well, so please feel free to raise your discussion on our community here
I have already purchased AP10 and having created large projects on AP9 I was looking for updates that would support creating complex projects easier, for example, being able to create a family tree or folders for projects where you have lots of slides. Looking through 200+ slides for a specific one is difficult when there is no way of creating a hierarchy. I know you can change to a list, but it’s little help with such a large number of slides. I wish this had some of the functionality that you find in Captivate or ispring. I’d also like to see more customisation on the footer bar as each project often needs certain info on the footer.
I’ll keep AP10 as I will continue to have updates, but I guess I was hoping for more of a change from AP9.
And no worries, more minor updates are about to come as well.
I will forward your requests to the internal team so that they can consider any possible ideas for those minor updates.
Please rest assured that we always value customers’ feedback :>
We hope you will continue supporting and accompanying with us further.
the presentation video looks great -
I would like some clarification on the below comment from Steve.
Are there some recurring cost / limitaitons for the AI side?
I didn’t see anything on the pricing page but may have missed it.
Also, have any chances been done to the export to SCORM ?
I’m still getting smaller size exports from AP8 than AP9 - if I try to match AP8 size with AP9 I have to sacrifice some audio quality.
My experience with ActivePresenter is so much better than Captivate. I was a Captivate user for 20+ years. The “all new” Captivate is horrible. I do not wish any of it to come this way.
As a side note… 200+ slides seems like a lot! - WOW - Any way for you to break that up into smaller pieces?
Rarely do I have a project that exceeds 10.
Normally my projects are far smaller, but it was a very specific job with lots of dependent variables that changed throughout the process. I have to say AP copes with the volume of slides very well. The reason for folders is just to aid my organising and probably is just a wish for me!
I do agree with you about Captivate. It really is a drag to use and I use AP as an antidote to Captivate!
Using the AI tools consumes credits depending on what you want to do. Once you run out of credits - you would need to purchase more.
While I do not make much use of those tools - I do find some things potentially useful.
I was disappointed, though, to discover that I consumed some credits already.
During my exploration of the new version - I chose to listen to a preview of some voices to hear how they sound. I did not even type in any text and I just heard the placeholder text.
I don’t like the credit model. Credits are consumed for everything - even when what is generated is no good and you have to adjust a prompt or you just want to hear each voice to decide which one you like. You burn through the credits fast.
I think it would be better to only consume the credits when you accept a particular outcome.
I agree. I would have liked to know about the credit-system before I upgraded. It does seem fairly priced, but it is very unclear when and how many credits are consumed. Consider a warning dialog, like ‘This action will consume xxx credits. Do you want to continue?’.
while anyone who has used AI is familiar with the subscription model, it should have been made more obvious in the AP10 marketing materials. not sure how it could have been mentioned, as using specific dollar/currency will be dated, and mentioning your product will require additional fees is not attractive, from a marketing POV. Consider adding a notation that a subscription/credit model is required when consuming some/all AI features. doing so will save many folks an unpleasant surprise.
Hello, I have multiple licenses for AP9. Do I need to purchase them again for AP10? I read all the correspondence but I may not have seen it or I may have missed it. Sorry if it has already been written. @QuynhAnh_Vu
I want to thank the devs for the considerable effort visible in AP10 and support for answering the inevitable pointy-pitchfork questions.
while AI credit consumption is TBD in the less obvious AI-supported functions (writing style is a good example), i would expect any credit consuming feature include an off/on switch, enabling a user to regulate their spend.
the AI features appear ambitious, a nod to Atomi Systems for taking a big swing.
in the QoL department, i need to check for my workflow. on my short list is export controls, which complements the earlier request to allow a folder structure to organize a deck. Export control will allow selecting a subset of slides or non-contiguous range (facilitates republishing errata).
Ducking is a nice to have. Be aware some users record in a DAW (Cubase, Reaper), and process all audio in the DAW.
Also be aware your competitors include DaVinci Resolve. I am not suggesting AP compete with Resolve, just be aware of the competitive landscape, do not duplicate functions users may already have elsewhere. OTOH, if AP is being positioned as a one-stop-shop, then never mind
Continuing to ramble, AP has always excelled at screen recording. I have found nothing comparable in quality. whatever maintains that gap, keeps me happy.
As for project management, 200 slides is not unusual and any tools to manage the content are helpful. I have had large decks for HR that spanned multiple topics but were best managed in a single AP project.
