Unable to select OBS Studio Virtual Camera

Problem:
Record Video function doesn’t allow me to select OBS Studio (v. 27.0.0.0) Virtual Camera as webcam. The OBS Studio virtual camera does not appear on the ActivePresenter camera’ list.
Other virtual cameras like DroidCam or XSplit Vcam work great.
I’m able to select OBS Studio Virtual Camera from other tools (fyi: Zoom)

ActivePresenter version:
8.5.0 - 64bit - free version

OS:
Windows 10 Enterprise version 21H1
Experience: Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.2020.0

Note:
This is the ActivePresenter log:

Those are the cameras that ActivePresenter is able to select.

Thanks a lot!

Hi Riccardo,

ActivePresenter only supports the new webcam API on Windows called Windows Media Foundation. Maybe the driver of OBS Studio only supports the old API (Windows DirectShow API), so it is not recognized by ActivePresenter.
Unfortunately, we don’t have a plan to support DirectShow since some of its features are deprecated.

Regards,

That is interesting.
I did share this request with the OBS forum and someone has replied to me with this link:
OBS MF
OBS Studio has one of the largest YouTubers community and sounds difficult to me to think that if you need to record a video you will not use OBS or another similar tool.
Can you please recommend me an alternative to OBS Studio that has a virtual camera compatible with ActivePresenter?
thanks

Hi Riccardo,

Maybe he/she misunderstood the problem.
We use Media Foundation (MF) for retrieving the list of devices and reading frames from camera. The encoding part is a different one and we don’t use MF (or directly use it) for that purpose too. We will take a note for this problem but I am afraid there is no quick solution for it now.
Thanks for your feedback.

Regards,
