Sprite Animations and 3D

Amazingly powerful software. Thank you.

However had a problem working through my first Sprite sheet. I followed the tutorials for getting the sprite sheet into keyframes in the main timeline. Converted them into a symbol, with create play unchecked. When I double clicked on the symbol, the animation worked fine. But at that point I had to switch to a YouTube “Transform Your Sprite Sheets into Stunning Animations in Saola Animate.

The video is kind of grainy, so I wasn’t sure I was making the correct selections for the triggers. When I finished, it seemed I’d failed, because the animation wouldn’t work as it moved down the motion path. What I’d missed was that the animation was being previewed in the browser, not the Animate program. Partly this was because of the graininess and some YouTube text overlaying at the zoom I was using.

The other thing that threw me off was another Saola video “How to Create Motion Paths in Saola Animate”. In this one the butterfly was definitely animating in the program, rather than the browser. What I finally realized is that the animation’s playback had been activated and was long enough for the whole motion sequence.

I’m assuming that the flapping wing motion was duplicated many times to make it long enough for the motion path, but if there is another way to show the animation (in my case a rowboat), within the program I would appreciate it. A tutorial package that we could take apart would also be helpful.

That approach worked when I was trying to do some 3d animation. When I couldn’t find anything to get it to work, I finally stripped down the 3D Rubik to one cube and realized that I needed an entrance effect to bring it to life.

Still, gives me a massive amount of control over everything. Again thanks for the amazing program.

Hi Geoff,

Thank you for your nice words.

It looks like you’re trying to loop a sprite sheet in Saola Animate. You can check out the butterfly in the Animated Banner on the sample page inside the Saola Animate app for a reference.

In that sample, a sprite sheet is converted into a symbol, and triggers are used to loop the timeline. You can double-click the butterfly to open its timeline and see how the looping trigger is set up.

Regards,
