Questions About Preferences – Custom Toolbar and Backup Settings

Hello ActivePresenter Team,

I have a few questions regarding the Preferences and toolbar customization options in ActivePresenter.

I created a customized toolbar under Preferences → Toolbar that contains the tools I use most frequently.

  1. When the program starts, the default Home tab is displayed. Is it possible to make my custom toolbar open by default instead?

  2. I would like to back up my custom settings in case something goes wrong. I’m using macOS. Which file(s) or folder(s) should I back up to preserve my toolbar and preference settings?

  3. One of the sections I use most often is File → Project Properties. Is there any way to add Project Properties to a custom toolbar for quicker access?

Thank you for your help.

Hi,

Regarding your questions:

  1. Open a custom toolbar by default

ActivePresenter opens the Home tab by default when starting.

As a workaround, you can move your custom tab to the beginning of the tab list and disable the Home tab in Preferences → Toolbar. If you still need the Home commands, you can create another custom tab and add the commands you use most frequently from the Home tab to it.

  2. Back up toolbar and preference settings

Before making any changes to your settings, you can create a backup copy of the configuration file located in:

    ~/Library/Application Support/ActivePresenter/ActivePresenter.apconfig

If needed, you can restore the backup later by replacing the current configuration file with the saved copy while ActivePresenter is closed.

Alternatively, if your toolbar customization does not turn out as expected, you can use Restore Defaults in the Toolbar Preferences and then customize it again from scratch.

  3. Add Project Properties to a custom toolbar

Currently, Project Properties is not available as a command that can be added to a custom toolbar.

As a quick workaround, you can Ctrl + click the currently selected slide in the Slides pane to deselect it. Once no slide is selected, the Properties pane will switch to displaying the Project Properties.

Hi Hoa,

Thank you so much for the detailed explanations and for answering all my questions so clearly.

I really appreciate how thoughtful and practical your suggestions are — especially the workarounds and the backup recommendation. The Ctrl + click tip for accessing Project Properties is also very clever and helpful.

Also, as a small feature request: I would love to have a permanently visible info/icon button (or another quick access option) for Project Properties that is accessible from anywhere in the interface. Since Project Properties is something I find myself checking frequently, having a more direct and discoverable way to open it would make the workflow even smoother.

Thank you again for your excellent support and for taking the time to explain everything in detail. It’s truly appreciated.

Best regards,
