Problem with slowing down playback

Problem: I am trying to slow down playback. I am selecting the range (using the green and yellow marker but also by selecting the entire video) but when I adjust the playback speed (e.g to 50%), I delete the end of my video and it does not extend in length as you would expect.

I am doing something wrong but I can’t work out what. I have managed to do it correctly with another video but can’t recreate these steps.
