I’m trying to import a PowerPoint presentation into ActivePresenter but need guidance on maintaining the original slide layouts, text formatting, and animations. Are there specific steps or settings to ensure a smooth import process? Additionally, are there any limitations or compatibility issues I should be aware of when working with PowerPoint files in ActivePresenter?
Hi,
ActivePresenter can preserve mostly PowerPoint elements. This means that similar elements will be preserved, while the different ones won’t.
Details are as follows:
- Animations: Similar animations in both ActivePresenter and PPT can be preserved. You can compare those animations via the images below:
ActivePresenter:
PPT:
One small notice for you is that before you import your PPT into ActivePresenter, if you want the animations to be imported right into the main timeline, you should choose the Gear icon (Preferences) on the Start Page > Miscellaneous > tick Import PowerPoint animations to the main timeline.
If you do not tick this option, the animations will be imported to the Click Sequence Timeline (How to Work with Click Sequence Timeline in ActivePresenter 9)
You can also refer to this post to know how to convert PPT to an eLearning course: Create Interactive PowerPoint Presentation from A to Z
- Transitions: Similar transitions in both ActivePresenter and PPT can be preserved (e.g.: Morph transition does not work in ActivePresenter). You can compare the transitions between 2 software via the images below:

Embedded videos: Any inserted videos or embedded videos from YouTube or Vimeo can still be preserved in ActivePresenter.
The embedded videos from online platforms will be regarded as a YouTube object or a Web Object in ActivePresenter.
You can self-test this embedded feature later. -
Embedded audio: Audio files will be preserved, too. Please self-check this feature, too
To understand and have a more comprehensive view of the product, our team always encourages users to download and experience ActivePresenter directly. (Download ActivePresenter - eLearning Authoring Tool, Screen Recorder, and Video Editor)
We allow users to download and use ActivePresenter for free with no limitations in time or functionality so that users can test all features and get used to the software before purchasing it.
So, my advice is you should try the software first to take a look at the differences between your original PPT and the ActivePresenter project after you have imported that PPT.
