How to prevent AP from making file size bigger?

I’ve noticed this a lot, I try to use this as a video-cropping tool to remove seconds from the video, yet the end result from the file I initially import is that despite chopping off many seconds (actually making it less than half as long) the file size still increases.

I’m not sure why this is, I try to reduce video and audio quality to 50% to compensate but it still doesn’t get the job done - what exactly is bloating the sizes of the files that AP is outputting after cropping? I’m just trying to get some good efficient compression going here.
