Problem: Can I create interactive simulations from imported video?
ActivePresenter version: 10 Professional
OS: Win 11
Notes: I have hundreds of subject matter experts and thousands of interactive simulations to create, but can’t give each user their own ActivePresenter license and train them all how to use it.
My idea was to have them create screen recordings that I can then import into ActivePresenter 10 and turn into interactive simulations. I’ve read the User Manual but didn’t find this capability so figured I’d come and ask
Note: I appreciate this would be a very labor-intensive process as the clicks and keystroke breaks would need to be retroactively added manually, but if that’s the only way to achieve this then sobeit (plus I’m in a position to build a team around this workflow).
Also very open to better ideas on how to do this at scale! I have zero experience in eLearning and only became aware of ActivePresenter 10 two weeks ago, so I’m definitely flying by the seat of my pants here
At the moment, ActivePresenter does not support converting an imported video into an interactive simulation. Simulations are created with the Record Software Simulation mode, which captures the clicks and keystrokes while you record and generates the steps automatically. That information cannot be recovered from a video file afterwards.
Do you have any recommendations on how I could go about this project? Given I’m looking to create hundreds of interactive simulations and host them in Deel, it is essential I adopt the optimal approach.
Also is there a way to create a selection slide so that when a user selects an interactive simulation they can then choose whether it runs in Demonstration, Tutorial, Practice, or Test mode?
Thank you for the follow-up. At this scale, the key is to separate the recording from the authoring.
Recording. Your experts open ActivePresenter, choose Record Software Simulation, perform the task, save the project and send it back. That is the only step that involves hundreds of people, and it needs no authoring knowledge. Editing, questions and publishing stay with a small central team.
Before producing in bulk, fix the screen resolution and the capture area and settle the theme and Player Settings on one master project, then reuse it. Keep one simulation per project, so each exports as its own package and can be updated and assigned in Deel on its own.
Licensing. Whoever records needs a license too, so buy them under your company: assign one to an expert while they record, transfer it back to your team for the editing and exporting, then pass it to the next person. Transfers are only allowed within the same company. ActivePresenter is licensed per machine, one machine at a time, and moving a license takes a few clicks and an internet connection.
Mode choice. No selection slide is needed — it is an export setting. In Export To HTML5, Operation Modes selects which modes are exported, and Generate Index Page produces an index page with an entry for each of them.
