Creating a symbol from an image

Hi,

I am trying to create symbol2 from symbol1, but the symbol2 does not show up. The blue boundary box is visible but not the image. (screenshot)

The steps I took:

  1. imported resource image,
  2. convert to symbol, name it symbol1 (checked on Create Playback, checked on Fit to content.
  3. click ok.
  4. exported the symbol1, named it symbol2, save.
  5. imported the symbol by clicking the “S” with the circle icon.
  6. selected the symbol2.saolasym
  7. It shows the blue boundary box but it does not show the image.

I am not sure if I am missing something. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Hi,

The symbol2 doesn’t contain any element. You can enter it editing mode (by double-clicking it in Resources pane, or right-click it on Canvas > Edit Symbol.
I’ve tried your steps (export symbol1 to a file and import it again as a new symbol) but it works fine.
Can you please try again?

Regards

I followed the same steps, but the new symbol I imported isn’t containing any element.

When I draw the circle on the canvas, and follow the steps. It works. However, I cannot figure out when I save the image as a symbol, it will not work.

Here is an attachment of the one I draw the circle on the stage.

Hi @user2651,

Can you please share the log file so that we can check.
The log file Saola Animate.log can be found in the following folder:

  • On Windows: %APPDATA%\ATOMI\Saola Animate
  • On macOS: /Users/<user_name>/Library/Application Support/ATOMI/Saola Animate

Hi @ToanLS

Attached is my log.

Saola Animate.log (1.7 MB)

Hi,

It seems that it’s a bug when exporting a symbol on macOS.
We’re checking and will get back to you soon.

Regards

Thank you. I had no idea there was a log. In the log, what do you search for that indicates there is a bug? (i.e. Is there a code or symbol that indicates there is a bug?)

There are some “missing resource file” lines in the log.
It means that the image resource wasn’t exported successfully when exporting the symbol.
We can also reproduce the issue in our tests on macOS machines.

Hi @user2651,

We’ll release an update to fix this issue next week.

Hi @ToanLS

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it.

When you do the tests, do you test different formats? (i.e png, jpg)?
I did a test on jpg, and I got the same results.

Yes, it occurs with any resources in the symbol.
