I am new here and have just downloaded ActivePresenter8 (free version) and am new to instructional design/elearning. I am hoping to teach myself using all the great online tutorials. I opened my first home page though, and when I click on templates there are none there. Is that normal? Does it not come with templates?

It wouldn’t be normal if you don’t see any prebuilt templates after installation.
I think you should re-download ActivePresenter and install it again.
When starting ActivePresenter you should see a screen with default templates as in the screenshot below:
I was afraid of that. I have downloaded twice and still the same.! I just tried to attach a screenshot here but do not think it is working either. Rough day for me haha.

It seems you are running ActivePresenter for macOS. Please set the permission of the ActivePresenter application folder to writable to see if it works.
