Running PHP file's within S.A

I am wanting to hook up a php file that writes & reads from a MySql or text file.
I believe I will need JS for this.

What is the best/easiest way to do this??

Yes, you need to look into AJAX. You can use it to send and receive data with PHP and other stuff.
