For some reasons unknown to me, the navigaton bar is not responding. Would anyone have suggestions to solve this problem? Or am I missing something else?

I have checked the project and found that this is because you have not set the Navigation setting for the project.
The Navigation dropdown here should be Free so that you can freely go backward/ forward among slides.
None is for the case you self-design buttons on the slides to navigate among slides with the buttons.
Backward Only is the case when you are able to use the toolbar to navigate backward only. Going forward will need to self-design buttons and add actions similarly to None.
So, to change the setting, go to Export tab > Player Settings > Content > Navigation > Free > then Apply.
