Growing project size let become the program unstable

Problem:

Hello dear developers of the Active Presenter,
I’ve been a user of this great program for about a year now. Since I have found my way into green screen technique I actually made the decision to buy a license. However, one thing prevents me from doing this:
In my projects, several videos are mixed together to form one overall video. When I start such a project everything will work at first. But after importing the 3rd video (approximately), the program begins to become unstable. Then I can work for a few minutes only before the program crashes when using the preview function (the play button). At some point I can no longer use the preview at all because it crashes almost immediately (note: except preview everything is ok). In order to rule out that my computer is the source of this error, I tried the project on 2 other computers: The preview led to crashes on every computer. What could be the cause of these crashes? Yes, I tried “software rendering” but there was no difference. The source videos Im using come from a Samsung Galaxy Smartphone, possibly the video-codec is critical, I dont have any idea. What can I do ?

Friendly regards
Henning

Hi,

Could you please send the project having the issue and its external data folder PROJECT_FILE_files (if any) to support@atomisystems.com so we can further analyse the issue?

Regards,
Yen

Hello dear Yen,
today I reduced my project so much that only the project file and the files folder remained. I tried to see if the crash still occurs in this slim version and yes, it did. Interestingly, a window opened after the crash that draws attention to the update for the next version … so the program was not completely dead  So I first installed the new version from today, but unfortunately nothing changed regarding my play button problem. As I said, the problem only occurs with larger projects, my zipped project is now 2.6 GB in size. I can’t send such files via email, so I sent you a download link to my internet box. There you could pull the file with 10 Mbit/s (~45 min). Or do you have internet space, where I can upload the zip file ?

friendly regards
Henning

Hi Henning,

I have checked your project and seen that it has multiple high resolution videos (with green screen effect) appear at the same time. ActivePresenter can not handle this case since it requires a lot of processing power. I think this type of project requires a specialized video editor and a strong graphics card /CPU.

The workaround is resizing all videos to smaller resolutions before inserting them into ActivePresenter. For example, you can resize the Andrea video which has the resolution 1200x1750 to 428x625 (the actual object size used in the project).

Please note that you can use ActivePresenter for resizing videos, just select Open in the program and browse to the video file, then select Export > Video and specify the Video Size (%) value.

Regards,

Hello dear Dao Viet,
… that’s not good news. Ok, I can try to make the source videos smaller, but unfortunately I don’t know in advance how big I want the videos finally. And besides, if my computer is overwhelmed, I would expect a smooth error message and not a crash with data loss. Actually, I would expect that only the realtime output would drift away when overloaded. However, thank you very much for your help … your support is excellent!

Friendly Regards
Henning

Hi Henning,

In your project, you can rescale the videos to around 30% of the original size.
We will try to improve the program as your suggestions.
Thanks for your feedback.

Hello dear phuongdv,
I would like to come back to my old problem. Yesterday I installed the latest ActivePresenter version and I was waiting happily for the problems to be a thing of the past … but unfortunately that is not the case. My ActivePresenter keeps crashing.
In the meantime, I no longer believe that my problem has anything to do with the size of my green screen videos. It is possible to reproduce the crash very easily. I made a little smartphone video to demonstrate it:

Hi Henning,

We are checking for the problem and will get back to you soon.

Regards.

Hi Henning,

I have just sent an email to you to ask for help in checking problem.
Thanks for your patience.
